Legacy Land
The view from the porch hadn’t changed much in his 85 years; the land gently sloping to the field his family had plowed for generations. Daniel Boone had been here once, as had the current governor of Kentucky. This was a sacred place. Unlike Boone, two centuries before, the current governor wanted something else, something that would destroy the land. So, like great grandpappy, Sam sat in the rocker, rifle across his lap. The land would remain, his family claim assured. Big Coal would not win, even if it did pay his pension. This was the price of legacy.
